Teacher Shortage in America

Has an apple a day kept teachers away?

Have you noticed a shortage of teachers in your children schools? Administrations across America are frightened about the extended recess teachers have taken within the last couple years. Tens of thousands of positions are vacant and if you flip the channel to your local news station you'll discover that schools across America are in desperate need of Math, Science, and Special Education teachers In the state of California there is a desperate need for teachers: 21,500 teachers positions are vacant and growing. So why are the numbers so huge?

Are teachers capable of providing a social and intellectual environment in which students can learn from? I believe that some of our teachers today haven't built the necessary intimate association with their students, and because of this, students don't see the great, inspiring teachers they once did; therefore, when other teachers attempt to teach outside of inspiring students, vacant of desire; or administrations employ teachers who lack remarkable erudition--these administrations have basically hammered on a cold iron. We need more teachers in our schools for our children, there is no argument. (View a list of teacher vacancies on Indeed) Some applicants may not know about a host of teacher stimulus out there, but for the teacher-to-be, there are several  incentives like Mortgage Assistance Programs and housing grants. You can also read more about teacher incentives from the Nber Working Paper Series, and Madeleine Cummings has an article on incentives worthy of reading called, "How to Attract Teachers to Poor, Rural Schools." Down below are several programs that put the bite back into teaching:

1. NEA Auto Buying Program
2. Math Concentration shows a list of Teacher Discounts at department stores, etc.
3. Chevrolet offers an Educator's Discount
4. There are many programs offering Early Retirement Incentives for teachers,  you can't beat this!

I'm interested in hearing what you think about the shortages, incentives, and how to bring in more teachers so please leave a response.
